Hyperlite Buzz 5.2 Surfer 2023
Pros and cons
- Hybrid Design – The Buzz bridges the gap between skim and surf styles, offering versatility for both carving and spinning, making it a great all-around option for wake-surfers who enjoy variety.
- DuraShell Construction – Combines the lightweight feel of a handmade surfer with the durability of a compression-molded board, providing excellent strength and longevity.
- Minimal Thickness for Maneuverability – Its thinner design makes the board easy to maneuver, offering responsiveness and control, which benefits riders at all skill levels.
- Not Specialized for Skim or Surf – While versatile, it may not provide the peak performance of a dedicated skim or surf style board for those seeking highly specialized riding experiences.
- Requires Skill to Maximize – Although suitable for various skill levels, beginners might find it more challenging to unlock its full potential compared to boards designed specifically for beginners.
- Limited Stability for Beginners – The minimal thickness and high maneuverability might result in less stability, making it harder for novice riders to maintain balance.

#2023 Hyperlite Buzz Traditional Wakesurfer – Surfer/Traditional Explained
Toss some buckets with smooth linked turns inspired by your favorite saltwater surfer. Traditional surf shapes have a thicker profile and a mellower rail/bevel allowing a rider to pivot a turn more from their back foot and are best ridden with either a deeper fin or multiple fins. Riders usually apply more pressure on the back half of the board and generate more force through a turn. Still very capable of doing tricks on and off the water – just do them with a fluid-like feel.

Single to Double Concave
Channels water down the belly of the board transitioning to dual concave exiting tail.
Layered Glass
Our fiberglass is available in 3 weights depending on the board. Over time, traditional woven glass fibers will separate. With layered glass every Hyperlite deck will have the same pop off the double up year after year.
Tail Shape – Pin
Commonly used on skim style shapes the pin tail is super fast down the line and spins easily.
Macchined EVA Traction – Diamond
Ultra grade EVA foam machined into diamond shapes with a rough finish increases grip and hold.
EPS Core
Expanded polystyrene foam provides a super lightweight and durable core.
Tail Profile – Mid
Traditional surfboard tail shape for quick carving and maneuverability.
Durashell Construction
Hyperlite’s proprietary construction process combining compression molding and vacuum finished techniques.
Thruster THRI Fin
Surfing’s most popular setup, tri-fin is ideal for surfers of all ability levels, the 3rd or center fin provides additional stability and maneuverability.
